We had a bit of a scare last Wednesday. At about 6pm Lauren complained that her belly hurt, so I decided no All Stars we'd just lay low... she wanted to eat dinner and we did, I kept it light, just in case! She tucked into bed around 7ish, belly still hurting, at 8 I was asking her how bad it hurt, like go to the Dr. bad, and she said yes! So I called the peds dept. and chatted with the nurse, as I was talking to her Lauren got sick (poor thing), so the nurse said skip food for 24hrs, limit liquids until she hasn't been ill for 2hr etc. So I had her come into my bed in case this went on throughout the night. She feel asleep, but woke at 10ish scratching and itching to the point I said you need to stop, I can rub your back instead... I went to rub her back and freaked, I turned the lights on to see this, but worse...
Her skin was all bumpy and broke out in hives! She has NEVER had them before... so I quickly call the help nurse... gave her some med's and watch her breathing etc for the next 3hrs... it was back and forth as to if we should run her into the emergency room, as by midnight no change to the hives, actually they were even more red and raised... and then finally at 1am they started to go down! So I finally went to sleep and in the morning we went to the Dr and found out she had a touch of pneumonia, which may have caused the hives! Ugh... and the camping troop was looming ahead! I was worried she might not be better in time to go, but she was! She went back to school on Friday-- whew!
So Friday (afterschool) I took Lauren and her GS troop camping! Even though it had rained most of the day (although it stopped by the time we got there) and was very muddy and wet out, we were able to have our campfire and hike! The girls were able to cook pizza tonka toasters and they also did banana boats (YUMMY) and smores! I feel like we ate most of Friday night! lol! The girls all did very well, staying involved in what we were doing, paying attention and listening, interacting well with each other. They especially loved the bunk beds! And went to bed surprisingly well! It was 10:30 going on 11pm so they were wiped out to-- that always helps!
This is the girls by the pond, on our hike!
Here are a few of the girls playing twister in the cabin!
Saturday we woke up early, made breakfast, again the girls helped cook, set-up and clean-up! Then we did a quick craft; making picture frames with nature items they found the night before on our hike. They made up and preformed a camping skit for all of us (each girl had a parent or grandparent with them) and then they headed out for a color hike. I quickly cleaned the cabin, and by the time they got back it was time for lunch, hot dogs over the fire! And guess what the sun popped out! It was a wonderful end to the camping trip!
Both Lauren and I were beat! I quickly ran everything through the wash and put things away-- got showers for both of us... and then we squeezed in a quick nap with Mason- while Paul headed to the farm to "catch" (always say catch, it is really shoot) a turkey.
Sunday was another beautiful day, Lauren went to neighbors to play at 8:30 in the morning and didn't come home till 8pm!!! She had a great day playing with her friend! Mason and I played outside doing bubbles, kicking the big ball around and he rode his big wheel a bit! It was a laid back, relaxing day!
And my last update... we bought a swing set from a friend and finally last night Paul was able to pick it up and "install" it. All of the rain has left the yard quite squishy, but yesterday afternoon was so beautiful out and the breeze really helped to dry up the yard, enough to allow him to move things around! So the kids got a chance to play on it last night and they thoroughly enjoyed it! It is kind of funny... Paul has talked about building a swing set for 2 years... and well it is the one thing he has dropped the ball on... so when my friend said she was selling hers I jumped on! Paul wasn't to keen on it, while he liked the set, he was thinking something more along the lines of fort with swings, and a structure built more with wood like our deck (4x4's etc). So we drew up some plans, and I faxed it to a local lumber yard for pricing and the thought was to move this swing set to my Mom's and he would finally build one for the kids... he decided last night to atleast get it to our house and set it up temporarily (since it wouldn't take to long to put back together) and let the kids play on it in the mean time... well he put it together and they had such a good time on it last night, I think we will keep it here atleast for this summer! By next summer they might be tired of it and then he can build more of a fort or enclosure for them! So here is the set. It looks really nice! Especially considering we only paid $100 for it! lol!
So there is my update! See ya in a few weeks-- lol!!!
